THE FAITH OF OUR FATHERS

 “Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: that the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: and might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.” (Psalm 78:1-8)

It has been said that:

1. There was a generation that saw and experienced the move of God.  (First generation)

2. Then there was a generation that saw the move of God but didn’t experience the move of God. (Second generation)

3. Then there was a generation that neither saw nor experienced the move of God. (Third generation)

Another way of saying the same thing is:

1. The first generation knew the Lord of the work.

2. The second generation knew the work of the Lord.

3. The third generation knew neither the Lord of the work nor the work of the Lord.

What is described here is a cycle

If we examine Abraham’s life carefully, we will discover that he needed a drastic change in his life. God needed to do some work on him before he would be able to be the earthly head of a brand new plan of God. He needed to be a man of power and strength. He needed a power encounter with God to bring this about, and he had it. Then, symbolic of a new beginning and a new destiny as “the father of many nations,” God changed his name to “Abraham.”

Abraham’s son Isaac, on the other hand, had no real need to change. He grew up amid a revival, of sorts. He had all the blessings handed down to him from Abraham, the first generation. All he had to do was sustain revival through prayer, but he failed to do this.

It was because Isaac failed to sustain the revival through prayer that his son, Jacob, was in need of a power encounter. Therefore, the third generation becomes most crucial because these people will usher in the next generation, the generation which will begin the cycle all over again.

There remains in this matter one last significant thing for us to consider. Joseph, the fourth generation, the generation of revival. I believe God wants us to get back to concerning ourselves with the salvation of our neighbors and the world. That would build our dependency on prayer once again.

God knows how to bring his church back to the place where we depend on Him again. He knows how to force us to our knees in prayer. He longs for a people who will spend time with Him once again in prayer.

I believe the world is looking for something different. However, if we do not again become a people who zealously go after God, we will never have that something different to offer them.

 

ÚSALO O PIÉRDELO

“Quitadle, pues, el talento, y dadlo al que tiene diez talentos. Porque al que tiene, le será dado, y tendrá más; y al que no tiene, aun lo que tiene le será quitado.” (Mateo 25:29-30) 

Esta  parábola trata con una de las problemas más insistentes de la vida: que es el uso y la fidelidad de nuestros talentos y habilidades” y con la fidelidad diaria a nuestro deber. También nos presenta el esplendor la gran recompensa del servicio Cristiano. Nos ilustra también la tragedia de la pereza.

En la parábola de las vírgenes (vv. 1-13) la advertencia es contra la negligencia. En está, es contra la ociosidad y la pereza. Los dos son peligrosos a nuestra vida espiritual ya la obra de Dios. En la parábola de las vírgenes se nos enseña los peligros de la presunción; el de los talentos nos muestra el peligro de faltar confianza y el miedo. Las vírgenes pensaban que era cosa fácil el servir a Dios. El hombre que tenía solo un talento pensaba que era demasiado duro servir a Dios.

En la manera más fuerte, El Señor en esta parábola alaba y aplaude el servicio que hacemos para El. Muchas de las parábolas del Señor eran con el propósito de inspirarnos a la acción. El admira la acción, la decisión y la determinación y le da un grado muy alto en Su valuación de cualidades Cristianas.

¿Qué es la manera que dios nos ve? Para Dios el carácter de una persona y sus logros en la vida son determinados por la fidelidad y energía con que él ha usado los talentos y habilidades que Él le ha dado. El siervo quien ganó diez talentos no recibió más honor o recompensa que el que había ganado cinco. Cada uno recibió el mismo fogoso y cordial “¡bien, buen siervo y fiel!”. Todo servicio es lo mismo para El Señor. No hay primero o último. El  nos juzga por nuestra lealtad y fidelidad.

El punto principal de la parábola, tiene que ver con el hombre quien escondió su talento y no trajo ganancia a su Señor. Más que los otros dos siervos, su situación corresponde al de la mayoría de nosotros, con nuestras cantidades pequeñas de habilidades y  talentos. No fue ningún accidente que el hombre quien escondió su talento fue él quien tuvo solamente un talento y no él quien tuvo cinco o diez talentos. La tentación para esconder nuestros talentos y habilidades y no usarlos, viene con una fuerza peculiar al los quien tienen solo una cantidad ordinaria.

La advertencia de esta parábola es para la persona quien esconde sus talentos y habilidades y no los usa. El, simplemente no uso su  talento para el beneficio de su dueño. Pero ese error fue suficiente para lanzarlo en la oscuridad. Esta advertencia es para esos quien, siendo equipados para el servicio, y se esconden de ello. Esos quienes siempre responden, “no puedo,” “estoy muy ocupado” o “yo no tengo el tiempo.” ¿Cuánto del trabajo del Señor se detiene por esto? ¿Qué diferencia hay entre estas personas y el hombre que escondió su talento?

“Tuve miedo”. Con estas palabras de excusa el hombre da voz a la razón principal por la pérdida de talentos e inutilidad de multitudes de vidas. Cuántos usan esta excusa, que ellos no pueden hacer nada, cuando en verdad lo que están diciendo es que no quieren hacer nada. Dios busca personas que digan: “¡Yo no puedo hacerlo todo, pero  puedo hacer algo! ¡Yo no voy a dejar que lo que no puedo hacer interfiere con lo que puedo hacer! Algunos tienen miedo de hacer errores. La persona que nunca cometió errores nunca hizo nada. El famoso futbolista Brasileño Pelé una vez dijo, “Usted siempre va errarle al 100 % de los tiros que usted no toma.” Para cosechar las recompensas, usted tiene que arriesgarse.

La forma más común de esconder nuestro talento es por decir, y pensar de lo que haríamos si las circunstancias fueran diferentes o tuviéramos mejores oportunidades, ¡haciendo nada mientras, con las condiciones y oportunidades que tenemos hoy!

Tales imaginaciones son una ilusión y una droga para la conciencia. Pasan por alto dos cosas importantes. El verdadero logro de una persona es medido por el uso que hace con lo que tiene, sea grande o pequeño. La única indicación segura de lo que uno hiciera con los talentos o mejores medios es por lo que realmente hace con lo pequeño que tiene hoy.

Cuando la parábola dice que se le quito el talento, nos muestra una ley que es verdad en lo físico, económico y en el mundo intelectual, así como también en lo espiritual. El brazo que nunca se ejerce pierde su fuerza poco a poco, mientras los músculos se encogen. Así, también los talentos y las habilidades que Dios nos ha dado, se van perdiendo se no los ejercemos. La capacidad para el entusiasmo, el apetito para las cosas espirituales, la habilidad para ver visiones, la energía para trabajar y el espíritu de sacrificio, todo este se marchitan y se pierden cuando no se usan.

 

 

USE IT OR LOSE IT

 “So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.” (Matthew 25:28-29)

This Parable deals with one of the most insistent problems of life the use and faithfulness of our abilities; with plain everyday fidelity to duty. It portrays the splendor and high reward of service. It pictures also the tragedy of laziness.

In the Parable of the Ten Virgins (vv. 1-13) the warning sounded is against negligence. Here it is against idleness and laziness. They are both dangers to our spiritual life and the work of God. In the Parable of the Ten Virgins, we are shown the danger of presumption; in the parable of the talents we are taught the danger of the lack of confidence and paralyzing fear. The virgins thought it was an easy thing to serve God. The man with one talent thought it was too hard.

In the strongest possible way, Jesus in this parable commends and applauds the service that we do for Him. Many of Jesus’ parables were meant to inspire us to action. He admires action and decision and gives them a high place in His evaluation of Christian qualities.

How, does God see us? In God’s sight, a man’s character and his real achievement in life are determined by the fidelity and energy with which he has used the abilities and talents with which He has endowed. The servant who gained ten pounds did not receive more honor or reward than the one who had gained five. Each received the same eager and hearty “well done, good and faithful servant!” All service ranks the same with God. There is no first or last. He judges by our unseen loyalties and fidelities.

The main point of the parable has to do with the man who hid his talent and brought no gain to his Lord. More than either of the other two servants, his situation corresponds to that of the great majority of us, with our small amounts of ability and wealth. It was no accident that the man who buried his talent was the one who had only one and not the one who had five or ten. The temptation to bury our abilities and fail to use them comes with peculiar force to those who have only an ordinary amount.

The warning of this parable is to the one who hides his talents from use. You will notice that it is not the man who wastes his substance in riotous living who is under condemnation. He simply failed to use his talent for his master’s benefit. But that failure was enough to cast him into outer darkness. This warning is to those who, are equipped for active service, yet they hid from it. Those who always answer: “I can’t,” “I’m too busy,” “I don’t have the time.” How much of the work of God is held back because of this? Are such people any different from the man who dug a hole and buried his talent?

“I was afraid”. In these words of excuse, the man gives voice to the main reason for the waste of ability and uselessness of multitudes of lives. How many make the excuse that they can do nothing when what they truly mean is that they don’t want to do anything! God is looking for people that will say “I cannot do everything, but I can do something. I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” Some are afraid of making mistakes. The man who never made any mistakes never did anything else. Pele, the famous Brazilian soccer player once said: “You’ll always miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” To reap the rewards, you have to take the risk.

The commonest form of burying our talent is by thinking and talking about what we would do if we were in other conditions or had larger opportunities, doing nothing meanwhile with the conditions and opportunities we have now. All such imaginings are a delusion and a drug to the conscience. They overlook two important truths: A man’s real achievement is measured by the use made of what he has, be it large or small and the only sure indication of what one would do with larger means or talents is by what he actually does with the smaller ones which are his now.

When the parable represents the talent as taken away, it shows us a law that holds true in the physical, economic, and intellectual world as well as in the spiritual. The arm which is never exercised loses its strength by degrees as muscles shrink. So the abilities and talents which God has given us fail if we do not exercise them. The capacity for enthusiasm, the appetite for spiritual things, the ability to see visions, the energy to work, the unselfish spirit of sacrifice, all these wither and droop when they are not put to use.

 

 

¿ERES UNA PERLA O SOLO UN GRANO DE ARENA?

"Y ante todo, tened entre vosotros ferviente amor; porque el amor cubrirá multitud de pecados. (1 Pedro 4:8)

Qué hermosas son las perlas ¿Verdad? Pero muchos no saben que son producto del dolor. Toda perla es el producto de una ostra que ha sido herida por un grano de arena, este grano de arena ha entrado en su interior.

Una ostra que no ha sido herida por un grano de arena no puede producir una perla. En la parte interna de la ostra se encuentra una sustancia llamada “Nácar” y cuando un grano de arena ha penetrado en la ostra, ésta lo recubre con capas de nácar para poder protegerse. El resultado, se va formando una bella y deslumbrante perla.

¿Alguna vez te has sentido herido por las palabras, o actitudes de una persona? ¿Te han acusado en decir cosas que nunca has hablado? ¿Han rechazado o ridiculizadas tus ideas? ¿Te han culpado de hacer algo que jamás hiciste? ¿Has sufrido alguna vez los golpes de la indiferencia? ¿Te han herido aquellas personas que menos esperabas? ¿Sientes que no te valoran como realmente lo mereces? Entonces debes de perdonar y hacer de tu herida una gran perla.

Cubriendo tus heridas con varias capas de amor, recuerda que cuanto más cubierta esté tu herida, menos dolor vas a sentir. Y por el contrario, si no la cubres de amor, esa herida va a permanecer abierta y te dolerá más y más cada día, se va a infectar con el resentimiento, la amargura y peor aún, nunca va a cicatrizar.

En nuestra sociedad, podemos ver muchas “Ostras vacías” no porque no hayan sido heridas, sino porque no supieron perdonar, comprender y transformar el dolor en una preciosa perla. Siempre recuerde que una perla es una herida cubierta por el amor.

 

ARE YOU A PEARL OR JUST A GRAIN OF SAND?

"And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins.” (I Peter 4:8)

How beautiful are the pearls right? But many do not know they are the product of pain. Every pearl is the product of an oyster that has been hurt by a grain of sand that has entered inside it.

An oyster that has not been hurt by a grain of sand cannot produce a pearl. On the inside of the oyster is a substance called "Mother of Pearl" as a grain of sand has penetrated the oyster, it covers it with layers of nacre to protect itself. The result is forming a beautiful and dazzling pearl.

Have you ever been hurt by the words or attitudes of a person? Have you been accused of saying things you've never spoken? Have your ideas been rejected or ridiculed? Have you been guilty of doing something you've never done? Have you ever suffered the blows of indifference? Have you ever been hurt by those who you least expected? Do you feel that you're not valued as you deserve? Then you must forgive and make your wound a large pearl.

Covering your wound with several layers of love, remember that the more you cover your wound, the less pain you will feel. And on the other hand, if you do not cover your wound with love, the wound will remain open and will hurt more and more every day, it will be infected with resentment, and bitterness, and even worse, will never heal.

In our society, we can see many "empty Oysters" not because they have not been hurt, but because they failed to forgive, understand and transform pain into a beautiful pearl. Always remember a pearl is a wound covered by love.

 

VIVIENDO MÁS ALLÁ DE LA MEDIOCRIDAD

“Y escribe al ángel de la iglesia en Lardácea: He aquí el Amén, el testigo fiel y verdadero, el principio de la creación de Dios, dice esto: Yo conozco tus obras, que ni eres frío ni caliente. ¡Ojalá fueses frío o caliente! Pero por cuanto eres tibio, y no frío ni caliente, te vomitaré de mi boca.” (Apocalipsis 3:14-16)

Un hombre de negocios prominente que matriculaba a su hijo en una universidad muy conocida meneaba su cabeza mientras el examinaba el catálogo de estudios de la escuela. “¿Tiene que tomar todos estos cursos mi hijo?” Él preguntó al decano. “¿No lo puede hacer más corto? Él quiere salir rápidamente.”

“Seguro que si, él puede tomar un curso más corto,” contestó el decano. “Pero, todo depende de lo que su hijo quiere ser. Cuando Dios quiere hacer un roble Él se toma veinte años, pero Él sólo toma dos meses para hacer una calabaza.”

Los atajos son atractivos, y usted está libre para tomar la salida fácil, pero esto es ser ordinario, uno de la muchedumbre, siendo mediocre.

En esta escritura Dios llama la mediocridad, tibieza. La gente de la iglesia de Lardácea no eran ni caliente, ni frio, ellos eran complacientes, ellos eran indiferentes al logro y ellos sólo estaban haciendo el papel. El mundo está lleno de la mediocridad. La mediocridad es el estado de ser moderado, hasta inferior en la calidad; ordinario. Dios no nos creó para ser mediocre, gente ordinaria.

El hombre no evolucionó de alguna ameba en el océano hace unos millones de años, como los científicos quieren que creíamos. No evolucionamos del mono como nos dicen los evolucionistas. Yo no sé de usted, pero yo fui creado en la imagen y la semejanza de Dios (Génesis 1:27). Somos extraordinarios en todas formas mediante Jesucristo. Dios nos ha dotado con la capacidad de pensar, para expresarnos con palabras, para amar y saber que fuimos creados por Él.

Somos la creación de Dios. Su carácter fue puesto en cada uno de nosotros en la creación. Cuando usted se siente sin valor o hasta comienza a odiarse, recuerde que Dios está en usted, listo y dispuesto a trabajar dentro de usted.

Siempre recuerde quién es usted; somos Su hijos, somos Su iglesia. Tenemos la promesa de Su amor perdurable y presencia. Somos herederos del cielo. Podemos hacer cualquier cosa por medio de Cristo. No se conforme por menos que lo mejor. Dios nos ha dado Su Espíritu, Su Palabra, Sus bendiciones, Él le ha dado dones. Ahora él espera que hagamos nuestro mejor para Su honra y gloria.

Si usted está viviendo una existencia mediocre, su alma está en el peligro. El mensaje muy claro de Dios es que Él está harto y no tolerará la mediocridad en su pueblo.

 

LIVING ABOVE MEDIOCRITY

                 

“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3: 14-16)

A prominent businessman who was enrolling his son in a well-known university shook his head as he examined the school's catalog of studies. “Does my son have to take all these courses?’ he asked the dean. “Can’t you make it shorter? He wants to get out quickly.”

“Certainly, he can take a shorter course,” replied the dean. “But it all depends on what your son wants to be. When God wants to make an oak tree He takes twenty years, but He only takes two months to make a squash.”

Short cuts are attractive, and you are free to take the easy way out, but that’s being ordinary, one of the crowd, being mediocre.

In this scripture, God calls mediocrity, lukewarmness. The people of the Laodicean church were neither hot nor cold, they were complacent, they were unconcerned with accomplishment and they were just going through the motions. The world is full of mediocrity. Mediocrity is the state of being moderate to inferior in quality; ordinary. God did not create us to be mediocre, ordinary people.

Man did not evolve from some ameba in the ocean millions of years ago as the scientists want us to believe. We did not evolve from the monkey as the evolutionists tell us. I don’t know about you but I was created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27). We’re extraordinary in every way through Jesus Christ. God gifted us with the ability to think, to express ourselves with words, to love, and to know that we were created by Him. 

We are God’s creation. His character went into the creation of every one of us. When you feel worthless or even begin to hate yourself, remember that God is in you, ready and willing to work within you.

Always remember who you are; we are His children, and we are His church. We have the promise of His abiding love and presence. We are heirs of heaven. We can do anything through Christ. Don’t settle for less than your best. God has given us His Spirit, His Word, His blessings, and He has given us gifts. Now he expects us to do our best for His honor and glory.

If you are living a mediocre existence, your soul is in danger. The very clear message from God is that He is fed up with and will not tolerate mediocrity in his people.
