This scripture is difficult for some to believe. When they hear these verses preached, they say, “It can’t be that easy.” Why do they say that? They say it based on personal experience. They say, “I prayed and nothing happened.” God didn’t answer my prayer, “Why?” Many try to justify this verse or find excuses for it.
SPEAK TO YOUR
MOUNTAIN:
A mountain is any obstacle that stands in your way. Jesus spoke to things and taught that “anyone” could also speak to mountains. Faced with obstacles, most Christians pray to God. But Jesus told us to speak directly to the obstacle and tell it to move out of the way. There’s nothing wrong with talking to God. You should do that. But when something is blocking your progress, Jesus said that you should tell it to move out of the way.
Most Christians only talk to God about the mountain, instead of following Jesus’ instructions and speaking directly to the mountain. In Matthew 17:20 Jesus said, “Because of your ]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you”. According to Jesus, unbelief prevents us from speaking to our mountains.
In Luke 11:9-10: Jesus said, “Everyone who asks receives,” not just a lucky few. Jesus said that everyone will receive what they ask for in faith! According to James 4:3, the reason some don’t receive answers to their prayers is because they ask wrongly.
The Bible never tells us to talk to God about our mountain, although we do it very often. We tell God about our mountain and expect Him to solve the problem, to move our mountain. We must understand and believe that God has already given us the power to move that mountain.
THE MOUNTAINS CAN
SPEAK TO US:
We see in verse 14 that the fig tree was speaking to Jesus. Jesus responded to the fig tree; it spoke to Him, and He responded to it. Have your problems ever spoken to you? They tell you:
1. Things will never change, "you've always been this way."
2. You've tried before and failed.
3. You're not smart enough.
4. Nobody likes you.
5. You're a nobody.
6. You're not going to make it!
NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN
I SPEAK TO MY MOUNTAIN:
You say, “I prayed and nothing happened.” God didn’t answer my prayer, “Why?” When Jesus spoke to the fig tree, it seemed like nothing happened. Nothing happened externally, but something was happening internally. Something was happening at the root of the tree (the problem).
When you speak to your mountain, it may seem like nothing is happening, but at that moment something begins to happen in the spiritual realm, behind the scenes. There is a time lapse between the prayer and the answer because prayer is a spiritual matter. When we pray, the first thing we have to do is take our eyes off our mountain, begin to worship and thank God; after a while, when you feel the Holy Spirit come upon you, that is the moment to speak to your mountain.
We see in Acts 9:40 that after Peter asked the people to leave the room, he knelt down with his back to the body and prayed. He didn't stay there staring at the body. Don't stand there staring at your mountain (problem), worship and thank God for the answer. While Peter prayed, the Spirit came upon him, and he turned to the body and told Tabitha to get up. It was a short prayer: "Tabitha, get up." His prayer wasn't entirely focused on the problem. He didn't pray, "Tabitha, get up," over and over again, rebuking death.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO
REMOVE YOUR MOUNTAIN?
Let's talk about the mountains in your lives. You know which ones I'm referring to: those imposing obstacles that seem insurmountable, those challenges so great that they affect your peace, your joy, and your faith. Perhaps it's a financial difficulty, a broken relationship, a health problem, or a dream that seems unattainable. Whatever your mountain may be, remember this truth: “You have the power to speak to your mountains, and by the authority of Jesus Christ, they will move!”
In Mark 11:23, Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.” This is not just an allegory; it is a divine principle. Jesus teaches us that our words, fueled by faith, have the power to change the impossible. What can you do to move your mountain?
IDENTIFY YOUR
MOUNTAIN:
The first step to speaking to your mountain is to identify it. What stands in your way? What causes you fear, doubt, or frustration? Be specific. Name it. Whether it's fear, addiction, scarcity, illness, or discouragement, you cannot overcome what you refuse to confront. Bring your mountain into the light and remember that you are not alone in this battle. God is with you and has already given you the victory.
SPEAK WITH FAITH, NOT
FEAR:
The words you speak have power. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” When you face your mountain, you have a choice: you can speak words of fear and defeat, or you can speak words of faith and victory. Instead of saying, “This problem is too big,” declare, “With God, all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). Instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” declare, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Faith-filled words activate God’s promises in your life. When you speak to your mountain, do so with confidence, knowing that the same God who parted the Red Sea, who shut the mouths of lions, and who raised Jesus from the dead is fighting for you.
STAND ON GOD’S
PROMISES:
God's word is your foundation. When you speak to your mountain, you are not speaking in your own strength, but you are standing on God's promises. His word is living, active, and sharper than any double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). When doubt assails you, remind yourself of His promises:
1. “No weapon forged against you will prevail” (Isaiah 54:17).
2. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14).
3. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
Write these promises down. Meditate on them. Declare them over your situation. When you align your words with God's word, you release God's power into your circumstances.
PRAY WITH AUTHORITY:
Prayer is not just a request; it is a declaration. When you pray, you are exercising your authority as a child of God. Jesus said, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24). Approach your mountain with boldness and confidence, knowing that you have been given authority in the name of Jesus. Praying is not about begging God to move the mountain; it's about commanding the mountain to move in the name of Jesus. Stand firm in your faith and do not waver. Remember, the battle is not yours; it is the Lord's.
TRUST GOD'S TIMING:
Sometimes, the mountain doesn't move immediately. This is where faith, patience, and perseverance come in. Trust that God is working behind the scenes, even when you can't see it. His timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). While you wait, continue declaring life, continue standing on His promises, and continue believing that He is faithful.
TAKE ACTION:
Faith without works is dead (James 2:17). While you talk to your problem, don't forget to take practical steps of faith. If your problem is financial, create a budget and seek wise counsel. If your problem is a broken relationship, take steps toward reconciliation. If your problem is health-related, follow your doctor's advice while trusting God for healing. Faith is not passive; it is active. Trust that God will guide your steps as you move forward.
CELEBRATE THE VICTORY
IN ADVANCE:
One of the most powerful ways to face your problem is to praise God in advance for the victory. This is how faith is manifested: by thanking God for what He is about to do, even before you see it. When you praise God in the midst of the storm, you shift your focus from the problem to the One who solves it. You declare that God is greater than your problem and invite His presence into your situation.
YOUR MOUNTAIN WILL
MOVE:
No mountain is too big for God. He is the creator of the universe and the author of your life. When you speak to your mountain with faith, you partner with Him so that His will may be done in your life.
I challenge you to stand firm. Speak to your mountain. Command it to move in the name of Jesus. Declare His promises over your life, and as you do, remember this: the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11). You are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you (Romans 8:37).Your mountain will move. Your breakthrough is coming. Your victory is assured. Keep speaking, keep believing, and keep trusting.
What is the mountain in your life? What stands in your way? What is preventing you from moving forward and fulfilling God's plan?
1. Speak the Word of God to that mountain!
2. Speak to the devil and his forces and tell them to get out of your affairs.
3. Speak to sickness and tell it that it cannot remain in your body.
4. Speak to debt and financial lack and tell them to leave your life.
5. Speak to doubt, fear, and worry and tell them to disappear.
If you say, "I can't believe that talking to my problems will do
any good," that's why you still have them.
