THE LAW OF FAITH

“Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.”(Romans 3:27 ) 

"But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:8-17)

"For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us." (I Corinthians 1:20)

When we look at natural or scientific laws, like the law of gravity, or the law of aerodynamics, or Newton's laws of motion, they are laws that work consistently every time without fail (assuming nothing supernatural intervenes). Faith also is a law which when operated properly works every time without fail. By using the law of faith we can obtain any of the promises of God, including healing, deliverance from sin, forgiveness of sins, justification, and salvation. It works on the same basis as natural laws such as the law of gravity work, and that is that God ordains that it works, "upholding all things by the word of his power," (Hebrews 1:3). Faith is the means by which we can obtain any of the promises of God.

One meaning of the word "faith" is, "complete trust, or unquestioning confidence", and this can not only be applied to God, but also to natural things, and people. We can have faith in people, such as doctors, or dentists, or teachers, or family, or friends, that they will not let us down when we need help. We can have faith in technology, such as a car, that it will not break down on a long journey, or a plane that it will not crash if we fly abroad. Another meaning of the word "faith" is "strong belief, especially in a system of beliefs, there is only one true faith (Ephesians 4:5), It is "faith in Jesus Christ" Galatians 2:16), the true apostolic faith that the apostles had (Galatians 2:20). It is important because we are told that we should walk by faith (II Corinthians 5:7), stand by faith (II Corinthians 1:24), and live by faith (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11; Hebrews 10:38). We are justified by faith (Romans 3:28; 5:1; Galatians 2:16), we overcome the world by faith (1 John 5:4), and we can be healed by faith (Matthew 9:22; Luke 17:19; James 5:14-15). Faith will move mountains (Matthew 17:20; 21:21; Mark 11:23), obtain answers to prayers (Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:23-24), and make all things possible to us (Matthew 17:20; Mark 9:23). We cannot please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6), and whatever is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23). Most important of all, our ultimate promise of salvation and eternal life is through faith (Luke 7:50; Ephesians 2:8;  1 Peter 1:9).

In Romans 10:10 we find the Law of the Faith, which is to believe with the heart and to confess with the mouth. Faith cannot be express unless it is spoken. The mouth is the instrument by which faith is loosened.

According to this passage, the spirit of faith is manifested in that if a person believes something they should speak it. This is the law of faith in operation; a person who has the spirit of faith must speak the things that he believes. (Mark 11:23)

In Romans 10:10 it is seen that "with the heart man believeth..." What is believed? That what the Word of God says is true. To believe with the heart is to believe that God's Word is true in spite of what the circumstances say.

Romans 10:17 says "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing, by the Word of God." The law of faith begins when we believe with the heart the Word of God and then faith is produced in us.

Romans 10:10 says: “... and with the mouth confession is made....” That is to say, that in order for faith to receive something it has to be loosened with words. II Corinthian 4:13 says: “I believed, and therefore have I spoken;” If you have believed something of the Word of God, then you should speak it. Our faith is loosened by means of our words.

Sometimes miracles can happen instantaneously, and they require no waiting. Many of the miraculous healings of Jesus were like this (Matthew 8:3; 20:34; Mark 2:12; Luke 1:64; 4:69; 13:13), and even those of the apostles (Acts 3:7; 9:18; 14:10), but these were done by men who were very mature spiritually. With less mature Christians this does not always happen, because our faith has to be tested and tried in order to perfect us (James 1:2-4;  1:12;  1 Peter 1:7).
