TEACH US TO NUMBER OUR DAYS

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)

If someone were to give you the sum of $87,000.00 what would you do with it? There are probably many things you would buy and do with it. But, you say to yourself, “no one’s going to give me that amount of money.” No, they probably won’t but, there will be something given to you this year that money cannot buy, time. That’s right. In 2023, God will give us all 87,000 hours or 5,256,000 minutes to use.

How will you spend this time? You can spend it wisely, spend it all on yourself, or give some to your fellow man or to God in service. We may not be wealthy in terms of dollars and cents, but the one thing we will all have in common are the hours of 2023. How are you going to spend this time? Remember, we will all have to give an account to God as to what we did with the time he gave us this year.

Counting is the first thing that is learned in life and one of the first things that is taught to a child. To count well our days is something that we must do with determination; but few learn how to do it. Our life and destiny depends on us counting well.

Our days are our treasure. It is the possession on which everything depends on. Nevertheless, money is counted with more zeal. Few are the days that God gives to us, that is why we have to use them wisely. The days that we waste cannot be recovered. Money can be recovered, but wasted days can never be recovered. Our character, our success and our eternity depend on their use. Let's remember, that God is going to ask an account of us for them. How will we give an account of them if we are carless with what we do with them?

Counting tell us if we have benefited from them. Many days without benefit are worthless. Others count them by the pleasures they enjoy. Life is intended to be enjoy, but if pleasure is your only sole purpose what a waste. There are some that count them by all the wealth they accumulate. Some count them by their afflictions, but what good does suffering serve if in this school we do not learn anything. Life does not consist of how long we live, but what we do with our days. True life is not the one that is measured in terms of years but of use.

How does God want us to count them? He wants us to count them by the blessings that He gives us every day. Many forget them or take them for granite. The Lord wants us to make use of the opportunities to do good and to serve Him. Some only think about the opportunities to prosper or to enjoy themselves. God also expects us to count them by our spiritual growth.

There is wisdom to be acquired in counting the days in the way that God wants us to. We learn to love and to serve. We learn not to waste our time and to make use of our opportunities. But especially, we learn to be always happy. Let's pray that God teaches us to count them as in His presence!
