¿QUE COMUNION TIENE LA LUZ CON LAS TINIEBLAS?

II Corintios 6:14-17; Efesios 5:8
Halloween claramente y directamente adora a Satanás.

WHAT COMMUNION HATH LIGHT WITH DARKNESS?

II Corinthians 6:14-17; Ephesians 5:8
The name means “All Hollows’ Eve”. But is it really? Where did it come from? What is it all about? Creepy goblins, ghosts and demons, witches on brooms, spiders and bats, dead men’s bones, flickering jack-o-lanterns, black cats, eerie costumes and parties. What a weird festival this is! Should we as children of God practice it?
Halloween is increasingly costly and dangerous. Each year following this strange celebration, gruesome accounts surface of the giving of booby-trapped treats to children; apples with concealed razor blades, cookies containing ground glass, candy laced with laxatives or spiked with poisons. This is to say nothing of the cases, reported and unreported, of muggings, murders and molestations which occur on the eve of “All Hallows”. In addition there are other incidences of bodily harm inflicted during the course of Halloween festivities, some on purpose and some accidently.
THE ORIGIN OF HALLOWEEN
It really is no secret that Halloween has been around for thousands of years. Centuries before the birth of Christ the Druids performed mystical rites and ceremonies in honor of the dead on their New Year’s Eve, October 31.
The ancient Druids priests (known as “Men of Oak”), the most evil people living at this time in England, France, Germany and the Celtic countries celebrated the “Vigil of Samhain” in honor of their god, Samhain, lord of the dead who demanded human blood sacrifices. These men were so filled with demons that some had strange, frightening powers. The people lived in terror of the Druids. Halloween is fun for the kids today, but in the times of the Druids it was a night of horror. Halloween had its origin with the Druids. On Halloween the druids and their followers went from house to house playing tricks or treat. The treat demanded by the Druids would be a young woman for human sacrifice. If the treat pleased the Druids they would leave a jack-o-lantern with a lighted candle made of human fat to protect those inside from being killed by demons that night.
When some people couldn’t meet the demands of the Druids, then it was time for the trick. A Hex (hexagram) was drawn on the front door. That night Satan or his demons would kill someone in that home through fear. That night the victim was assaulted brutally by the priests and sacrificed her to their god. Even today on Halloween night many occult killings take place in the USA and around the world.
Halloween acquired sinister significance with ghosts, witches, hobgoblins, black cats, fairies and demons of all kinds said to be roaming about the land. The people believed that evil spirits lurked about as the sun god grew pale and Samhain grew stronger. By lighting great bonfires on the hillsides, on the “Vigil of Samhain”, they hoped to scare away the evil spirits of those who had died the previous year. It was believed that on this day the souls of the dead would rise from the grave to haunt those who were living.
By waving burning straw aloft on pitchforks, the people tried to frighten off demons and witches. Just in case waving of burning straw didn’t work, the people also put on grotesque and terrifying costumes. They believed that if you dressed in a horrible enough fashion and went roaming around with the spirits all night, they would think you were one of them and they would do you no harm. They believed that when these spirits came to your house, if you did not treat them, they would trick you.
Halloween is a day Witches celebrate above all other days. Witches have eight major festivals throughout the year. The major Witchcraft festival is October 31 or Halloween. Witchcraft is not child’s play. It is an abomination in the eyes of God (Ex. 22:18; Dt. 18:10-12; I Sam. 15:23; II kings 9:22; II Cron. 33:6; Mic. 5:12; Nah, 3:4; Gal. 5:19-21). From 1575 to the 1700’s many people were burned at the stake for their real or suspected involvement in witchcraft. Yet, today witchcraft has gained acceptability by many people. Even the Internal Revenue Service has given tax exempt status to the church of Wicca (the official church of witchcraft). The word Witch is derived from the Saxon word WICA, which means “wise one”. The black of a witches cloak reminds us that Halloween is a “festival of the dead.”
All Saints’ (All Souls ’ Day), was a day that the Roman Catholic church set aside in memory of early Christians who died for their beliefs, it was first celebrated in the month of May. By the year 900 the date had been changed to November 1. Another name for All Saints’ Day was “All Hallows”; October 31 was known as All Hallow’ Eve, which was later shortened to “Halloween”.
While All Hollow’s Eve originally had been a strictly Roman Catholic holiday, the pagan influences from earlier traditions gradually crept in while the Catholic Church’s influence waned. Soon Halloween became a secular observance, and many customs and practices developed.
History books and encyclopedias freely and openly describe this pagan origin and explain their parallelism to today’s customs. Halloween is pagan; still most people, will justify Halloween’s observance by saying, “So what? So it was started by pagans. We aren’t thinking about pagan gods today. We’re just having fun. Where it came from doesn’t make any difference.”
Well, it doesn’t make any difference unless you care what God says on the subject! And if you accept the teachings of God, then it does make a great deal of difference! God’s Word has a great deal to say about why you should not be involved with customs such as those centering on Halloween.
One only has to look at Halloween costumes and decorations to see that it celebrates death, devils, witches and darkness. We as children of God are supposed to conduct ourselves in a way that exemplifies light and life, not darkness and death.
The real contradiction between these two approaches is noted by Ralph Linton, in “Halloween Through Twenty Centuries”. “Among all the festivals which we celebrate today, few have histories stranger than that of Halloween, it commemorates beings and rites with which the church has always been at war.”
C. W. Douglas discloses in “The American Book of Days”, “The mystic rites and ceremonies with which Halloween was originally observed had their origin among the Druids, centuries before the dawn of the Christian era in the celebration on the eve of the festival of Samhain, the Lord of the dead-Satan. The early Roman Catholic Church adopted the eve and the days following and gave new names to them, as it did with many other Christian observances.
Dorothy Wood a writer of the Wichita Beacon presented the case clearly in October 30, 1959. She wrote, "This ancient night of feast for the devil and his groups to degenerate, because of the Christians has grown in popularity. For centuries Christians have adopted all the pagan festivals of old. The Winter Festival has become Christmas. The spring festival has become the Passover (Easter), and worship of Christ shamelessly uses the old pagan fertility symbols, chicks, bunnies and eggs. Now they have completely taken over Halloween.
A SERIOUS MATTER
God does not look at this lightly, as some of us do. He does not want his children to borrow pagan customs (Dt. 12:29-30) with their inevitable detriment to the development of spiritual character. He plainly and directly commanded through the prophet Jeremiah, “Learn not the way of the heathen” (Jer. 10:2).  Through Moses, God condemned as abominable all that has to do with witchcraft, black magic and other demonic works of darkness (Dt. 18:9-12).
In view of this Biblical condemnation, we should want to stay as far away as possible from whatever falls into these categories. Instead all across the land in this “Christian Nation”, children and adults dress as witches, demons and other manifestations which honor the “Lord of Death” on his special night.
People do not seem to realize that Satan and his demons are the enemies of God. Halloween purposefully worships Satan. The apostle Paul summed up the attitude true Christians should have and should teach their children: “For once you were darkness (in the past, before becoming a child of God), but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (not dressed as demons, witches, zombies and other beings of darkness) for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true; and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them (by letting your light shine). For it is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret (let alone to participate in them)” (Eph. 5:7-12).
Halloween is not just fun and games. It is serious business! It is the time that witches celebrate more than any other time of the year!

No necesariamente.

Me gusta estar necesitado.

No puedo hacerle frente.

“He aprendido a contentarme.”

(I Reyes 20:22-29) Acercase a Dios.

CONTENTMEMT

Philippians 4:11-13: “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Our attitude and our state of mind have a great effect on our health. Our attitude towards ourselves, our attitude toward life, our relationships with other people have a powerful effect on our physical life as well as our emotional life. Fear, resentment, anxieties, a lack of purpose in life can be just as detrimental to our health.

We must remember that Paul was in prison when he wrote this epistle. He was probably chained to a guard on either side of him 24 hours a day. And it was in this setting that he says, “I have learned to be content.”

WHAT CONTENTMENT IS NOT

To understand what contentment is, it’s easier to understand by seeing what discontentment is. Every time we complain, every time we grumble, every time we express our envy and our jealousy, we’re expressing discontentment. Discontentment is when you are unhappy with your present circumstances, when you have an uneasy state of mind because of the things that are happening in your life.

IS CONTENTMENT BEING HAPPY WITH EVERY THING?

Is contentment saying, “I’m happy about what’s happening in my life”? Is contentment liking my present circumstances? Not necessarily. That’s not exactly what Paul was talking about in this scripture. Contentment is not being stoic. To control your mind that suffering and pain no longer come to your consciousness. The Eastern mystics, can sleep on a bed of nails, or can walk over a bed of hot coals and feel nothing; they have so suppressed their thought process about it. Paul is not telling us to be numb to suffering.

Nor do we have to learn to like everything that’s happening in our lives. I don’t think Paul liked being in prison. We are not expected to look at our burdens or our difficulties or our problems and say, “I like this.” There are those who say, “You have to praise God for all things.” I don’t think Paul is saying that.

Nor is he telling us that we must settle for those things in our lives that are less than they ought to be. Paul had a lot of incompleteness and a lot of imperfections in his life, he was not saying, “Well, I’m just going to settle for that.” There were things in his life to which Paul expressed a great deal of discontentment. He said, “I press on; I have not yet achieved.”

WHAT IS REAL CONTENTMENT?

Contentment is knowing that you have all you need for the present circumstances. In verse 11, Paul did not say he liked being hungry. I like being in want. I like being in difficult circumstances.” He does not say that at all. What he is saying is that “Though I may not like it, I know I have from God what it’s going to take to measure up to these present circumstances. “I can cope with it”. “I can handle it.”

Nothing upsets me more quickly than when my computer doesn’t work. I can be patient with a lot of things. If the few things that I know don’t fix the problem then I don’t have the foggiest idea of what to do. Therefore, when my computer won’t work, I am extremely discontented. But, why am I discontented? I am discontented because I don’t know what to do to fix the problem. I don’t know how to deal with the situation. I can’t cope with it.

But, if someone was to come to me with something I know how to do, I have a great deal of contentment then, because I’m confident I can handle it. In one situation, I can cope with it; in the other situation I can’t. In one situation I measure up to it, I know what to do and in the other situation I’m lost. I don’t know what to do.

Contentment is taking your present situation, whatever obstacle you are facing, whatever limitation you are living with, whatever chronic condition wears you down, whatever has smashed your dreams, whatever factors and circumstances in life tend to push you under, and saying in the middle of it, “I don’t like it,” but never saying, “I can’t cope with it.” The Word of God says: “I can do all things through Christ who straightens me.”

II Cor. 4:7-9: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” You may feel distress, but you may never feel despair. You may feel pressed down, but you may never feel defeated. There are unlimited resources available to us in God. But, as soon as you say “I can’t cope,” you are failing to draw on these unlimited resources. Contentment is being confident you measure up to any test you are facing because of the resources of strength that Christ has made available to you, that’s contentment.

HOW CAN I ACHIEVE CONTENTMENT?

It doesn’t come natural. The apostle Paul tells us that it has to be learned. “I have learned to be content.” Life is a school. It is a classroom. I’ve had to wrestle hard and it is only through the long process of living and wrestling with difficulties in life that I have come to the point of realizing I am content. It is a process, and I practice it all my days. The biggest reason why God allows these difficulties to come into our lives is because it’s through the process of wrestling with them down in the valley that we learn what this kind of contentment is all about.

I have discovered in my 51 years in the pastoring that most people live the greater part of their lives in the valley. But, do you know what great truth I discover? “That the God of the mountains is also the God of the Valleys! (I Kings 20:22-29) Draw close to God. Get as close to Him as you possibly can. And you will find that it is in drawing close to Him that all His strength will be made available to you. No matter what the valley, no matter how deep it is, you can make the best of it. And you can grow through it.

If everything else changes, Yet the Lord does not change. If the sources of all other joy are dried up, God’s joy is never ending. The Bible tells us in Nehemiah 8:10 “for the joy of the LORD is your strength”. When you come to the Lord in sincere faith you will find joy, strength and most of all hope that things will get better. Hope is the desire for something good with the anticipation of receiving it. If God has placed a hope in your heart, don’t give it up, and don’t surrender it, no matter what your circumstances might be.

Many people live without hope for the future. Somehow they cannot believe that God loves them and has a purpose for their life. It does not matter what pain or impossible circumstances you may be facing, God will replace your despair with a great sense of hope. One common mistake that many people make is to measure God’s love for them by their circumstances.

You will make mistakes, but He will take your failures every time and turn them into something good for you. Why? Because He is a God who knows exactly what you need, He knows when you need it and He will be there to provide it.

Ningún otro pensamiento viene a él.

THE POOR RICH FOOL

Luke 12:13-21: “Then one from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But He said to him, “Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?”  And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’  So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.  And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, andbe merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

This parable is one that speaks to the heart, it is unforgettable. The story needs no explanation; its teaching is unmistakable. It is a story of judgment. Jesus had such a man in mind as He speaks this parable. Perhaps some of those who heard Him could remember the sudden death of a rich landowner whose unexpected death had been the talk of the city. He passes judgment on his life. The man who lived and planned in this manner was a fool.

The parable explains how it is that “a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” It is a poor life when a person’s only possessions are outward and material. The life on which judgment was passed was poor and foolish, because it was not rich toward God. What did it lack? What qualities were wanting? What are the proofs of this rich man’s real poverty?

HIS THE LACK OF THANKSGIVING

He was rich, and his ground brought forth abundantly, but his heart is never moved by a feeling of gratitude for his prosperity. It never crossed his mind that God was the giver of this increase. He thinks only of “my fruits,” “my goods,” “my barns.” He speaks only of himself; “I” is his only counselor. Psalms 24:1-4 says: “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters.” Most likely he attributed his prosperity to his own skills, his sharpness at a bargain, his wise planning, and his hard work. Perhaps, like many others, he boasted of the little he had when he started life, and spoke of his present worth with pride.

The Bible gives us a similar situation in the book of Daniel and its results; Daniel 4:29-31: “At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.  The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.”

This rich man did not see that God had some part in his prosperity. That of itself is a proof of poverty. A grateful person is a great person in the sight of God. Thankfulness of spirit is one of God’s treasures. It blesses him that gives, and him that receives. Pride and presumption are children of unthakfulness. Psalms 100 tells us: “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy iseverlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

Not to be able to see God’s goodness is a greater lack than color blindness. It fails to see all the glory and goodness of God in the world around them. To be lacking in thankfulness means that we are poor in ourselves.

HIS LACK OF HLPFUL SERVICE

The man in this parable is faced with a dilemma concerning his riches. He has no room where to store his harvest. He takes counsel with himself as to what he should do. In an instant he comes up with the solution to his dilemma. He decides to tear down his old barns and build bigger ones, and there he will store all of his harvest. He will carry on his business as before, but on a larger scale. No other thought comes to him. But this, too, is a proof of his poverty. He has no intentions of giving, only of getting; no plan of using, only of storing. He sees none of the possibilities that are in his hand. He has no higher thought of the use of prosperity than to store it in a barn. He does not understand that all gifts come from God and are gifts for men, to be used as such in the service of God. This man never dreamed of stewardship or service. The prosperity which came from his fields should have taught him better. The increase came not from storing, but from sowing. Had he used his wealth as he used his grain, putting them out to service in the help of man, true riches would have come to him. He would have been rich toward God and rich in himself.

HIS LACK OF ANY WORTHY OUTLOOK OR INTEREST

What are his thoughts for the future? What hopes and plans does he cherish? “Soul, thou hast much goods stored up for many years. Take it ease, eat, drink, and be merry.” He plays with the thought of retiring from business. He has more than enough to live on. There is no need to rise early and toil late or endure the heat of the day. He will take it easy for the rest of his life, he will enjoy himself. He is his own master. All that he has is for him. He will be a glutton and drink the fines wine. His pleasures are of the flesh. No higher vision dawns upon his soul. He has no interest or desire of spiritual matters at the moment, God and the hereafter are absent from his plans of life. “Many days” is the limit of his outlook. Man’s highest interests are without interest of God. The thought of goodness, the love of truth, the joy of helping, the pleasure of fellowship with God are of no interest to him right now. His life is so poor and uncaring that it knows not what it lacks.

IT IS SEEN IN WHAT HE LEAVES BEHIND HIM, AND TAKES WITH HIM

He is summoned thus by the voice that none can disobey. He had planned for “many days,” and he has not even one. “This night,” in the midst of plans and hopes, the unexpected surprises him. Death come calling. What does he leave behind him? His wealth, his goods, his barns. Nothing more. God reminds us in Psalms 39:6 who and what we are: “Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, And does not know who will gather them.”

No one rises up to bless his memory. His mourners are few if any at his funeral. He leaves no enduring monument in deeds of kindness, or of helpful service, or in an honored name. ¿What does he take with him? Nothing of what he had. His treasures were of the earth, and the earth keeps them. He only takes his character, such as it was. And with that he entered eternity a beggar, and a fool to await the judgment, “then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
